Spellwork ("the App") is a children's spelling practice app developed by Gavin Vickery. Your privacy — and your child's privacy — matters. This policy explains what data the App collects and how it's handled.
All user data — profiles, spelling sheets, test results, and cached audio files — is stored locally on your device. The App has no server-side database, no user accounts, and no cloud sync. Your data never leaves your phone unless described below.
The App sends limited data to OpenAI's API (via a secure proxy) for two features:
OpenAI's data usage policies apply to these API calls. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy for details. OpenAI's API data usage policy states that data sent via the API is not used to train their models.
The App offers consumable credit packs via Apple's In-App Purchase system. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. The App does not collect, store, or have access to any payment or billing information.
The App is designed for use by children with parental involvement. It does not:
The only data transmitted is worksheet photos and spelling words for the OCR and TTS features described above.
The App requests camera access solely to photograph spelling worksheets. Photos are sent to the OCR API for word extraction and are not stored permanently by the App.
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you control it entirely. Deleting a profile or the App removes all associated data. There is nothing to delete on our end because we don't store anything.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
